Diving Lundy Island

Dive trip to Lundy Island!

It was promised to be a glorious weekend on the North Devon coast when 9 intrepid club members descended from the Midlands over the weekend of  27th and 28th May, and the weather did not disappoint.

Rugby Divers: (L-R) John, Steve, John, Andy, Nick, Guy, Tony, Jay & trip organiser Dave

Our platform for the weekend was “Obsession II” with our friends at Obsession Boat Charters – www.lundydiving.co.uk

Once in the water, there was plenty of interacting with the seals and we also managed a  few old wrecks – the MV Robert being the most intact one. This is a as a Panamanian, single crew 50m long coaster which capsized and sank off the eastern side of Lundy in 1975.

The vessel now rests on a muddy sand seabed on her starboard side. The port side of the ship is in around 18m of water whereas the starboard side lies on the seabed at about 25m.

Visibility was pretty good, water was a nice 16 degrees and the sun shone on.

It was such an enjoyable weekend we have booked both of the Lundy diving boats for the end of May 2024 over the bank holiday weekend.

Spaces are quickly filling up so if you are interested contact Dave Cox-O’Hara at the club, on the group chat or by calling 07885 584710.
